What is Lomi Lomi Nui?
Lomi Lomi Nui is a traditional massage from Hawaii. The Hawaiian word “lomi” means something like “to knead”, “to rub” or “to press”; “nui” means “big” or “much”. The doubling “lomi lomi” is often understood as an intensification – what is meant is a comprehensive, generous massage that includes the whole body.
Unlike a classic massage, which works on individual parts of the body one after another, the movements of Lomi Lomi Nui connect the body into a whole: a single stroke can begin at the foot and only end at the shoulder. Many people experience this as especially soothing and deeply relaxing.
Long strokes – with the forearms as well
Long, flowing strokes are typical of Lomi Lomi Nui. Not only the hands are used, but also the forearms: they glide broadly over the back, arms and legs, spreading warmth and gentle pressure evenly across the body.
Because of the large contact surfaces, the touch feels soft and enveloping. Instead of pressing on single points, the movements follow the lines of the body – calm, even and unhurried.
Plenty of warm oil, a rhythm like waves
Lomi Lomi Nui is traditionally given with plenty of warm oil. At Tantra Trauminsel we use a warm, odourless oil. It makes the long strokes light and supple, is pleasantly warming and lets hands and forearms glide over the skin without resistance.
The rhythm of this massage is often compared to ocean waves: movements come and go, roll across the body and fade away again. This even flow helps many people to switch off their mind and arrive fully in their own body.
Lomi Lomi Nui, Tao or tantra?
At Tantra Trauminsel you can choose between several massages. The tantra massage is playful and varied and combines elements of traditional massage with energy work and breathing exercises. The Tao massage is calmer, almost meditative, and the nuru massage is very sensual and gliding.
Lomi Lomi Nui has a character all of its own: long, flowing strokes, plenty of warm oil and an even rhythm like waves. How your visit works
We work by appointment only. We will be expecting you and give you a warm welcome; our spacious shower is at your disposal before and after the massage. In the preliminary talk we discuss your wishes and what feels good to you – and during the massage, too, you can ask for something to be changed at any time.
To avoid any misunderstanding: we do not offer sexual practices such as intercourse or oral sex. Our rooms are in Geisseestrasse in the west of Nuremberg, barrier-free and accessible by lift; there is parking right in front of the building.
